One Year of The CRB

Today marks the one year anniversary of The CRB. What started as a small project to showcase explorations into some of the minor divine beings from Paizo's Golarion campaign setting and what you can create from randomly rolled characters, has exploded. The CRB has not only allowed me to interact with some really great and creative people, but it helped me get my foot in the door of an actual career in games writing (cheap plug check out my published works). It has been a wild and crazy ride that I'm glad I took.

Now there are probably a ton of people to thank and so I don't miss anyone I'm just gonna do a general thank you. From the people who pushed me to start the blog in the first place, to those who help me edit, promote, and do images. From those who were reading from the beginning to those who have just joined the CRB family. From everyone who shares my work to those who have seen it and paid me to do work for them. A special shout out to those contributors to my Patreon who make it easier to spend the time writing the things you guys wanna see while still being able to survive.

And now that year one is out of the way its time to start pushing through year two. Here's to another great year of the CRB.

Happy New Year

Although the CRB is not a year old yet, it is the New Year and I would like to both thank everyone and talk about what 2016 will bring.

First I’d like to thank the readers, you guys are amazing. I never thought there would be so many of you, but the number of people exploring the CRB continues to grow every day. And to those of you who take the time to comment on the blog as well as on the Facebook and Reddit posts I make, extra big thanks to you. The CRB is designed to spark discussion. Whether you agree or disagree with me, it’s always good to hear multiple opinions on the subject so keep it up.

Beyond the fans I’d like to thank Neal Litherland over at the Improved Initiative blog. There are many games bloggers out there, and it’s tough to get started and to be original enough to get an audience. Neal has been selfless in helping the new kid on the block, for which I am thankful.

I would like to thank my blog mistress, who does all of my graphics, for I am artistically inept. Seriously without that support I would have gone next to nowhere with this.

My editors, both friends and fellow gamers, have helped shape the message I’m trying to send while keeping my typos to a minimum and my grammar halfway decent. Sometimes when I’m passionate about what I’m writing the words flow, just not in the right order, and my editors keep that cup from running over.

I’d also like to thank Brian Berg over at TPK Games and Robert Gresham at Wayward Rogue Publishing. Just four months into my foray into games writing and they took a chance on me, giving me the opportunity to become an “official” published games writer.

What’s in store…

Of course there is more of the CRB itself to come. With my busy season over I’ll be restarting Randomly Generated Characters; I’ve missed getting the creative juices flowing with those. There will also continue to be more articles exploring gameplay and world building, as well as more explorations into the deities of Golarion.

All this writing is time consuming but I love every minute of it. That doesn’t mean I don’t also want to try and make this a serious living. I have created a Patreon, and if you enjoy all the content I’m creating I hope you decide it’s worth supporting.

Lastly, I have set a goal for myself of creating my own modules. Well, module. I’m going to start small. I have started working on an adventure and I’m looking forward to making it available. There’s no exact timetable as I’ve never tried to create a module, but 2016 is gonna be the year I complete at least one. 

And don’t forget to subscribe to the CRB so you’ll get email notifications when new content is posted. This is especially important if you’re only on one of the reddit boards I post to, as they only let me promote one post a week. Also, the CRB now has a twitter presence @SimonSezCRB. As the CRB moves forward into 2016 it’s always good to keep abreast of what’s going on.

In the spirit of the holiday I would like to post this little thank you note.

First and foremost thank you to my viewers who have shown a great interest in what I have to write. The commentary both here and on the Facebook and Reddit boards on which I post have been amazing. Since my goal is to get people talking and all of you are doing just that, it feels like you are family.

I’d like to thank the one viewer who went through my Amazon Affiliate link to by a plastic waste paper basket. Seriously thank you whoever you are.

I’d like to thank my art and blog directress, without whom none of this would be possible, as in all honesty I am the biggest procrastinator.

My other two editors who help fix up my writing. When I really have a flow I type so fast sometimes after the fact even I don’t know what I’ve said. They help me keep my thoughts coherent.

The kind folks over on the Pathfinder FB page who were enthusiastically positive when I suggested even starting this blog. Justin, Ian, Andrew, Joseph and all the others whose first names escape me at the moment.

It’s only been four months and in that time I’ve seen thousands of viewers pass through this portal. And the other thing I am thankful for is that those four months have now seen me become an actual writer for gaming products. For that I’d especially like to thank Neal Litherland over at Improved Initiative who has been one of my biggest supporters and helped me get my first writing gig. And I would also like to thank the guys over at TPK Games and Wayward Rogue Publishing for taking a chance on me.

This is just a short note to say it’s been one month since The CRB started. Although I have nothing to compare it too, I wasn’t expecting anywhere near the number of visitors I’ve been getting. So I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who’s come by to check out what I have to share. I’d especially like to thank those people who have commented on things Steven Markley, G, Derek Holtsclaw, J Malruhn, Jesse and of course Unknown. Creativity is best served by the sharing of ideas and you guys have helped make that happen here.
