Faithful of Zogmugot
As always, let us imagine we are sitting at our
theoretical gaming table. Our imaginary GM sets out the rules for the game we
will play. In this game, we are to make a follower of Zogmugot. The character
does not need to be a divine caster, just a devotee of the Lady Lastbreath.
What character do you make?

The Bottom Dwellers
Many of Zogmugot’s faithful collect the things that float
to the surface and wash up on shore. A special set of her worshipers look to
salvage that which has sunk to the bottom of the sea. Lady Lastbreath takes
drowning as part of her portfolio and the goblins known as The Bottom Dwellers
see their survival from their unaided dives as proof of their Hero-God’s favor.
Joining the Bottom Dwellers is actually a two-fold
process. Of course the first thing that a would-be diver needs to prove is how
long they can hold their breath underwater. There is no exact time prescribed,
the current Dwellers make their decision on a case by case basis. The second
task is to find an item on the bottom and present it to the group. Again there
is no set idea of what this object must be, interesting is better than common
however.
Eyes of the Sea
It is said Zogmugot can see out of every piece of beach
glass in order to look in on those who wander her sands. The Eyes of the Sea
are a group of goblin diviners who believe that they can use these “shinies” to
see as well. There is no way petition for membership into the Eyes, each member
is gifted their power by Lady Lastbreath herself.
The traditional method of divining the future or seeing
places far off is to use pieces of glass collected from a beach. It is believed
that each seeing uses the power of an individual “shiny” and so part of the
Eye’s daily rituals is collecting new material at twilight every night. These
goblins will pass over seemingly more valuable items to find just the right
piece of polished glass.
Trash Pirates
This group of Zogmugot disciples sail up and down the
coast of Varisa in makeshift boats. They stop all along the way collecting
pieces of flotsam and raiding the garbage dumps of coastal settlements. They
are especially fond of Sandpoint and Magnimar as they feel that they find the
choicest pieces of trash there.
The Trash Pirates began their life at sea after their
first captain had a vision in the aftermath of a near-drowning. He was tipped
overboard by an errant wave and quickly swept away, but by some miracle
awakened in the midday sun after being washed ashore. Captain Wavebreaker
collected himself a crew, mostly by force, and began the life of pirating. The
current captain is Captain Wavebreaker VII. None of them have been related
except Wavebreaker II and Wavebreaker VI. When the old captain dies the crew
fight it out till one last goblin stands and he takes on the moniker of Captain
Wavebreaker.
The sea can give and it also takes away, much like the
Goblin Hero-God’s followers. Who is your disciple of Zogmugot? Why have they
chosen to dedicate themselves to Lady Lastbreath? Where does their devotion
come from? Let me know in the comments.

Explanation:
ReplyDeleteDue to a lack of visible responses plus a love of seafaring adventures I decided to make a goblin for each of the three options. All three would have the Junk Tinker alternate racial ability, with GM permission. For those who do not know from http://www.d20pfsrd.com/races/other-races/featured-races/arg-goblin “Junk Tinker: Goblins use ramshackle equipment and vehicles that seem like they should never function. Goblins gain a +2 racial bonus on driving checks and on Craft checks to build or repair weapons or vehicles without the proper tools. They can make the attempt with any material that can hold the right shape for a few uses, but normally unfit materials produce items with the fragile quality. This racial trait alters skilled, replacing the racial bonus on Stealth checks. Source PCS:ISR” Favored classes are preferable, at least to me, so thus looking at:
• Sorcerer with aquatic bloodline for the Bottom Dweller.
• Summoner for the Trash Pirate. Mostly playing PFS but always wanted to try the Broodmaster archetype, which goes into effect at level 2 so it is up to GM approval as well as the use of third party books like Advanced Options: Extra Evolutions.
• Always wanted to play an alchemist like Mogmurch but my husband usually takes him for any We Be Goblins games, then he tends to blow up everything. In the first module he dropped a bomb in with the fireworks. I cannot see how to use an alchemist of the Eyes of the Sea though so…
• A witch with a ioun wyrd made mostly of sea glass.
Recap of The Assignment: Who is your disciple of Zogmugot? Why have they chosen to dedicate themselves to Lady Lastbreath? Where does their devotion come from? Let me know in the comments.
The triplet females of Aka, Yalla, and Olba agreed at a young age that they would only follow a goddess. Lamashtu was the obvious first choice but in researching her the witch Olba learned of the Goblin Hero-Gods and the two goddesses Zogmugot and Venkelvore. The triplets had always been drawn to the beach, especially as a refuge when the males in their tribe got out of hand or just after a major storm.
The beach, one twilight after a major lightning storm, is where Olba found her sea glass familiar. Actually an Ioun Wyrd, they formed an instant bond, and the floating mess of sea glass looking stones taught Olba the true power of storms, water, and magic.
Olba is not the only triplet with an odd counterpart. Yalla has an outside she can summon called Eidolon. Mostly aquatic it has gills, webbed hands, and flippers at the end of a long, powerful tail. Eidolon allows Yalla to ride upon its, as it has no gender clarification elements, shoulders in the waves to locate flotsam. (If allowed I would like the third evolution point to go to Hidden Compartment (Ex): An eidolon has a concealed, built-in, watertight compartment in which items can be stored. The weight limit of the compartment is one-quarter of the eidolon’s light load, and the volume limit is 1 cubic foot (8 cubic feet for Large eidolons, 64 cubic feet for Huge eidolons). Spotting the compartment requires a Perception check with a DC equal to the eidolon’s HD + 15. Removing items from the eidolon against its will requires a steal maneuver (from the Advanced Player’s Guide). Removing an item with the eidolon’s cooperation is a full-round action. Otherwise a simple tail slap at first level.)
Aka, the first born of the triplets loved being below the waves. It felt natural to her and as she became an adult she discovered water and magic were in her blood. The bottom dwellers accepted her immediately when she possibly cheated during her test by casting air bubble around her head, allowing her to stay underwater for an additional minute, and then bringing up an aquarium ball with a gold chain and a dead puppy inside.
More really good work, and I wish I would have seen these when they were posted instead of five days later. I particularly like the ioun wyrd witch idea.
