Adherents of Hei Feng
Some deities let their personalities change like the winds, in this week’s case that’s the sea winds. We head back to the lands of Tian Xia and the patron deity of the Tengu to see what mischief we can cause. We have Hei Feng, the Tian Deity of sea, storms, thunder, and wind. I will present to you this day three possible sects of this chaotic deity.

As always, let us imagine we are sitting at our
theoretical gaming table. Our imaginary GM sets out the rules for the game that
we will play. In this game, we are to make a follower of Hei Feng. The
character does not need to be a divine caster, just a devotee of The Duke of
Thunder. What character do you make?

The Jinxed
Although the names suggest that these worshipers of Hei
Feng are themselves cursed in some way, the Jinxed actually repel bad luck, or
so they claim. There is a belief among the pirates of The Shackles and The
Sodden Lands that Tengu can avert bad juju from their ships if you keep one as
a member of the crew. The Jinxed are an organized group of these so called Jinx
Eaters who work to hire out their own members to pirate crews.
Although some of The Jinxed actually have the ability to
“cheat” fate, that isn’t the case for most of the sects members. These
worshipers of the Duke of Thunder just revel in their time on the ocean and the
chaos of a ship. Any Tengu with sailing experience and the ability to bend the
truth can become one of the Jinxed, and the sect actively works against other
Tengu who are not members, especially those who don’t revere Hei Feng.
The Storm Crows
This is an exceedingly small sect, numbering only five
members. This group of Tengu are one of the most aggressive and destructive devotees
of the Duke of Thunder. They are weather manipulators almost without peer who
bring chaos and disaster with them wherever they go. This sect seemingly has
little purpose except to kill and destroy.
How the five members of the group came together remains a
mystery but the power of the quintet is undeniable. The five storms are; Mari
Mei-Kun the Terrible Wind a stormborn sorcerer, Momo the Thundering Step a storm
kindler druid, Lo Fen the Rainmaker a weather witch, Mei Li the Lightning Queen
a evoke, and BorgunOgo the Black Cloud the divine conduit, cleric of Hei Feng.
These five have terrorized Kwanli for over a decade and have begun to range
outside the Tengu nation into other parts of Tian Xia.
The Children of Thunder
.
Although Hei Feng is worshiped mainly by the Tengu he
has a few non-avian followers outside of nation of Kwanlai. Legend has it that
the Minata – now a region of hundreds of small islands – was broken up into
that form by the wrath of The Duke of Thunder. The Children of Thunder consists
of all different races from across the islands who pay homage to Hei Feng as a
means to stay his wrath from again coming to their home.
For his part Hei Feng appreciates being placated by these
mortals and has granted a few clerical power, and even oracular abilities to
those now outright seeking his favor. Inquisitors, rangers, and hunters also
make up a god portion of the sects membership, as they hunt down the things the
sect believes might displease The Duke of Thunder. Loyalty to the islands and
Hei Feng is all important and each member of the sect relinquishes ties to
their own people to serve the greater good.
The water winds and is full of life just like this
deity's followers. Who is your disciple of Hei Feng? Why have they chosen to
dedicate themselves to The Duke of THunder? Where does their devotion to this Tian
Deity come from? Let me know in the comments.
