The residents of Abbadon are nothing more than the
embodiment of hate. Whereas the infernal seeks to control the world, and the
abbsyal seek to cause chaos upon it, the Daemons seek to end it. This week we
look at a former horseman of the apocalypse Llamolaek, the Daemon Harbinger of rebirth, rites of passage, and
transformations. I present three possible sects you can use to populate your
game.
As always, let us imagine we are sitting at our
theoretical gaming table. Our imaginary GM sets out the rules for the game that
we will play. In this game, we are to make a follower of Llamolaek. The
character does not need to be a divine caster, just a devotee of The Ascended.
What character do you make?

The Next Step
For some nature is perfect. For others nature could use a
little nudge toward true perfection. The members of this sect of Llamolaek look
to push nature to what they believe is perfection by using magic and science to
manipulate it. Following the footsteps of the wizards who crafted such
creatures as owlbears and even the hobgoblin race, The Next Step is never
satisfied.
Members of this sect are mostly wizards and alchemists
although the occasional cleric, arcanist, sorcerer, or investigator joins. The
experiments they perform require, not only knowledge of magic or alchemy, but
an understanding of anatomy. When adventurers come across never before seen
magical beasts, it is a good bet that it is an escaped or loosed experiment of
The Next Step.
The Beyonders
The Beyonders are a sect of worshipers of The Ascended
who look past their current lives and seek to serve their master after a
rebirth. They hope to bypass becoming the tortured souls which most of those
who end up in Abbadon become. They wish to serve their Daemonic master by being
reborn as Daemons after their death.
Only a handful of chosen can actually become Daemons, or
so it is believed, thus the Beyonders have two sets of membership. There are
those who may well and truly become servants of Llamolaek, and then there are
the poor souls they trick into thinking they might. Because of the need for
these other sacrifices, this sect is abnormally large for a cult of one of the
Harbingers.
The Mothmen
Every little boy is told that one day he’ll be a man.
Many cultures have an event or a time that denotes the transition from
childhood to manhood. But not all little boys want to wait. Some of them want
to be grown up so bad that they’ll do anything. And like moths to a flame they
will jump at any chance to prove their manhood.
The Monthmen take advantage of these young men. They use
their silver tongues and honeyed promises to get them to do things that they
otherwise wouldn’t. Promises that certain deeds will ensure manhood
lead these poor boys down the path of destruction. Rogues, bards, and other
ne’er-do-wells make up the ranks of this sect. Most of their victims are left
to face the consequences of their tainted rites of passage, although those who
show promise may be taken in as apprentices to later become Mothmen of their own.
That which is old
becomes new again to the followers of this dark being. Who is your disciple of
Llamolaek? Why have they chosen to dedicate themselves to The Ascended? Where
does their devotion to this Daemon Harbinger come from? Let me know in the comments.
