CRB is a repository of all the creative things that float through my mind about the RPG Pathfinder. Two major features are random character generation and building characters based on the god they worship. Anything that seems like it adds to the creative aspects of the game will pop up from time to time, including location descriptions, adventure ideas and even short stories. CRB won't just be my own creativity, it will open the floor to anyone who has an idea sparked by what I present to you.

Character Nineteen - The Randomness

It’s the New Year and with my peak season over its time to get back into that thing I love oh so much. Writing up backgrounds for randomly generated characters. For those of you who haven’t seen this at work here is how it is done. As an example here is the last character I did Billup Wheatwhistler and the random stats I rolled for the little halfling here.

This week apparently the RNG wanted me to do a Human. I actually rerolled like six times for race and each time it came up Human so Human it is. The point buy on those rolls is 21 and I usually run 20 point buy games so it’s only slightly above. The rules for races that can choose where they put a stat is I either increase the highest or shore up the lowest, I chose the highest turning a 17 Int into a 19.

Male
Human
Age: 17
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 205 lbs.

Str 14
Dex 12
Con 10
Int 19
Wis 12
Cha 9

Homeland: City or Metropolis
Parents: Both of your parents are alive.
Siblings: You have 1 biological sibling.
- biological older brother
Circumstance of Birth: [Bastard Born] Your parents had a tryst that resulted in your birth out of wedlock. You know one of your parents, but the other remains unknown or a distant presence at best.
Parent's Profession: Slaves
Major Childhood Event: [Ordinary Childhood] Your childhood was fairly ordinary, with no major blessing or catastrophe—a stark contrast to an adventuring life. You lived your life in anticipation of growing up so you could affect the dull backdrop upon which your mundane life was painted. Now that you've grown, it's easy to miss those tranquil days where nothing ever seemed to happen.

Influential Associate: [The Mercenary] With this person, there was always a cost. No deed was done making a trade for something of equal or greater value. Whether this individual's actions tended toward good, evil, or pure balance, he was always fair in his dealings. You respected this trait and it influenced your own philosophy.

Conflict: [Destruction] You destroyed someone else’s property. CP: 6
Conflict Subject: Leader. CP: 0
Conflict Motivation: Family. CP: 3
Conflict Resolution:

Romantic Relationship(s): [Experience but No Substantial Relationships] You’ve had a fling or two, but have so far shied away from any ties or commitments.
Drawback: [Love] Your love for someone motivates you. When this person is in danger, you’re prone to feel weak, powerless, or angry.

Possible Traits/Story Feat

(Trait) Bastard
(Trait) Civilized
(Trait) Life of Toil
(Trait) Mercenary
(Trait) Ordinary
(Trait) Vagabond Child
(Story Feat) Shamed
(Drawback) Lovesick

Now the best part of this is that you have a five days to tell me what you would do with all this information. I’ll take something as simple as a race/class combo. If you want to put in a small background you can go for it too. Show me how creative you can be within the confines of these rolls.

And don’t miss out when I post the background on Friday. You can subscribe to this blog on the sidebar and get email notifications when new posts arrive. You can also follow me on twitter for tweets about updates and the occasional random thought on gaming. And if my work excites your imagination you can show your support on my Patreon and help make being creative more sustainable for yours truly.
